Dugong Will Be Protected or Not
In Harry Bligh’s article “Alarm over gill nets – Recreational anglers fear ban will be overturned” the author argues that about whether gill nets need to put in the dugong protection area or not. First, the author explains that the proposal will take human and animals’ lives. “This proposal has the potential to decimate our marine life, including dugongs, turtles and dolphins and erode biodiversity” (Bligh, 2007). Second, the author states that Queensland government gives the people who work in the dugong protection area pressure to push them to make a decision. The government pushes them to put the gill nets in the dugong protection area that can protect some fisherman. It will hurt many dugongs. It is that people will help dugong but they hurt the dugong if they try to save the dugongs using this way. However, people think it is not right. According to Goodwin, who has worked 15 years in the dugong protection area, according to Goodwin, the proposal was never raised in the meeting of previous consultative body in 2006. Finally, the author says that the proposal only protects humans. The people who work in the dugong protection area think the gill net can only protect the human, not dugong. They said this proposal could make 200-kilo dugong to be homeless. At the end, Goodwin said, “this proposal is a bad resource management” (Bligh, 2007) he said government need make a plan that consider both sides.
In this article, the author thinks we need to protect the dugong in the right way. I agree with that. Dugong, also called sea cow, is near to extinction. We need to protect them as soon as possible. In fact, there are three steps that can help to save dugong’s life. We should build enough dugong protection area and protect the wildlife area, solve the water pollution problem and make a new law to protect the dugong.
First, we should build enough dugong protection areas and protect the wildlife area. We know dugong is very dangerous sea animal. Our protecting them is also protecting us. The dugong is found in 43 countries along the western Pacific and Indian Oceans. (The Humane Society of the United States n, d) Those counties need to build the dugong protection areas. In fact, the dugong is dangerous. Therefore the protection area must be built far from human’s beaches. Also there are many dugongs who live far from every country. People need to do research that helps scientists to protect those dugongs. Protecting them in human’s way is easy and important and gives them a “house” to live in.
Second, we solve the water pollution problem. Every year, people put much garbage into the ocean. That garbage makes the sea water dirty, especially the plastic. The dugong eats it until they are dead. The plastic still is here. So we need to cape with the water pollution. Clean the ocean. Give sea animals back a clean sea. That is what we need to do now. Also, creating the new technology to clean the dirty chemical water is also necessary. These are two ways to solve the water pollution problem. the pollution must be removed as soon as possible.
Third, we should make a new law to protect dugong and other sea animals. Each country needs to make a law to protect dugong. One is do not kill or eat dugong or other animals. Second is that we must study in a class about how impotent it is to protect sea animals. Third, if people want to have a factory or buy a horse near the sea, they must pay a very heavy tax every year. That can help government to protect dugong’s life. It is useful.
In conclusion, dugong and other animals need to be protected as soon as possible. Animals are people’s friends. We need to protect them. We should build a protection area, clean the ocean and make a new law. These are only the few way to protect them. Live with them, love them and protect them. It is our responsibility. If everybody loves them, and then we cannot kill him or her any more. If the technology is ready, we can clean the ocean, and give them back a wonderful life. Therefore, saving sea animals life, it is also saving human’s life.
